I'm a little confused with your comment you mentioned earlier that you did the short course and studied for the exam using this link bit.ly/CPC-Exam-Review - and now your stating you did a course through the one site listed above that is 1297 in price, that is not inexpensive the first link you gave the cost is more reasonable 80.00, so you used both resources to past test??
Yes, one of the links no longer works but you can find the information in the main website http://bit.ly/Main-Website The link for the review is http://bit.ly/cpcreviewblitz Sorry the other link is for people who already have the review and want to get the DVDs.
Hi, I have Masters in life science and 3+ years of editing /proofreadinf exp. Now, I want to get into medical coding. Could you suggest any basic course probably free online course that can of help to me, appreciate your views, thanks! Regard Vaishali
Vaishali, there is free material on the Medicare website. That might not enable you to pass an AAPC certification exam, though. It definitely will not qualify you to sit for the AHIMA exams, which are what you want. To do that, you need more than a cheap course. I did Andrews (www.andrewsschool.com) and passed both the CPC and CCS. I had no trouble getting a better than entry-level job.

andrews school is not an accredited school so if you want a quality education from an accredited school that's comprehensive and affordable check out www.alliedschools.com. Andrews school (a business posing as a school) has no accreditation. They offer medical transcription which is a red flag since medical transcription has not been s career for over 3 years. Don't fall for it. Allied is only school to back up education with a pass or don't pay money back promise for cpc or ccs exams. Be careful

There is no requirement for accreditation. That is a ridiculous argument. You sound as though you feel threatened by them, which would be understandable since you seem to post all over here that you sell their courses. Andrews is appropriately licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Private Schools. They therefore ARE a school and students have the protection of that Board. It does meet AHIMA requirements for the CCS. I am certain of the excellent quality of the instruction because I took their course, passed both the CPC and CCS, and got a medical center job.

You can get older copies of coding book, exam prep on websites like abebooks.com, alibirs, booksamillion, etc. Don't pay through the nose for programs as you will find that most employers want you to have at least your associates degree. Go to your local community college and there are grants and scholarship galore to help pay for school. I am studying for my CCS through AHIMA and not one of my study books cost more than 5.00. The majority come with cd's and practice tests. Sorry, I just don't like these post where these people come on here and try to sell a program. AAPC is very expensive and I bought there books at above mentioned sites. Good luck and remember, most employers want work experience too. That is why it is good to go to school as they have an internship that helps with hands on.

Programs should prepare you for the CCS, not something less so that you still have to study for it through AHIMA.

I have been working in the medical field since the early 90's. Here in Illinois, the jobs I have been viewing want at least an Associates Degree. Maybe where you are that is not the case. I never said "internships" would be counted toward actual work experience. Also, no you don't have to go through AHIMA to study for the CCS exam. I am going on for my Bachelors and will sit for my CCS exam in September. I was offering advice, not to be picked at by someone. I am sure different areas have different requirements. I was suggesting an Associates instead of just a certificate of study.

Findacode.com has useful medical and billing coding resources. Along with other resources for the aspiring coder they have a very useful code lookup and library for all major code sets (ICD-9, CPT(R), HCPCS, DRG, APC, NDC, ICD-10 and more) along with a wealth of supplemental information such as newsletters and manuals (AHA Coding Clinics, CPT Assistant, DH Newsletters, Medicare Manuals). All of this information is indexed, searchable and organized for quick access and extensive cross-referencing.

Learnmedicalcoding.com AAPC CPC program, which means that the coursework is fully approved by the AAPC. The program is designed for 17 weeks of intense study, which will include all the relevant coursework and critical field experiences. Because of this extensive study system, students who complete this course will be well prepared to take the CPC exam, which is necessary to become fully certified. Many other programs do not provide the path to full certification. Instead, those courses only prepare students to become a CPC-A, which carries far less weight with employers. These students will not receive the vital field experiences, thereby diminishing their employability. With the LMC program, students complete a practicum experience that includes coding 600 actual medical files for the best field experience in the industry. This accounts for the two years of necessary experience to obtain full CPC certification. To better prepare students for the CPC certification exam, this course provides ample test taking tips and more practice exams than other courses. Moreover, students will not just memorize content. They will understand coding on a different level with specific training on coding directly from an operative report. Overall, this course is so effective that students who successfully complete all the work are 90 percent more likely to pass the exam. In all, students are prepared to start a new career in less than six months with a lucrative salary of 50,000 dollars. This is why the learnmedicalcoding.com! program is the unparalleled choice for a career in medical coding.

The most desirable credential is the CCS, which you can't even qualify to take with the AAPC programs. Andrews is one of the very few schools that has good success with the CCS, not just the CPC. $50K is the average coder salary for more experienced coders. No one can promise income in a certain range, especially with just a CPC and no experience. You can get that A removed with that practicum, but you still have no job experience.
